DUI Crackdown Kicks Off in Tampa Bay & Throughout Florida

|

From today until September 5th, the Florida Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will take part in a national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" initiative. The nationwide campaign takes place every year and is scheduled to coincide with the Labor Day holiday. The Florida Highway Patrol has indicated that for its part, all uniformed officers, including those that are normally assigned to administrative duties, will be patrolling all interstates and major highways throughout Florida between now and the upcoming holiday weekend. You can expect that local law enforcement agencies will be doubling down on efforts to detect and arrest impaired drivers in their respective locales as well. Motorists who observe aggressive or impaired drivers are being urged to contact law enforcement as part of the effort to curb drunk driving.

Folks, if you are out and decide to have a few, please get a ride from someone or take a cab. While it may seem inconvenient or expensive, believe me, it is nowhere near as inconvenient or expensive as a DUI charge. If arrested for DUI in Pinellas County, you will likely incur substantial fines, court costs, the cost of completing DUI school, an alcohol evaluation, and treatment if recommended. You may also be subject to community service hours and the indignity of an ignition interlock device in your car. For a multiple time offender, you may be facing a jail sentence and the loss or your privilege to drive for an extended period of time. To save a few bucks or get home a little quicker just isn't worth the risk. Have a safe and happy upcoming holiday weekend.
